For far too long, the Greek people have inflicted horrific cruelty upon stray cats and dogs (and other animals). This brutality is not limited to isolated incidences but is frequent and widespread throughout Greece. Despite the alarming regularity, there is little publicity, so the world remains largely unaware of the atrocities. The savagery of the cruelty also suggests an ingrained cultural hatred of animals that permeates all levels of society. Perpetrators range from children to elderly men and women, and even include mayors, priests, and business owners. Shockingly, these sadistic individuals often post images and videos on social media, flaunting the pleasure they derive from the unimaginable suffering they inflict on these poor, vulnerable creatures.
The barbaric cruelty these animals endure includes:
Tying animals to cars or motorcycles and dragging them along the road
Beheadings
Amputation of limbs, ranging from one to all paws
Castrations with knives
Hangings
Tying animals to trees and leaving them to die
Skinning animals alive
Throwing kittens and puppies into garbage bins, the ocean or over cliffs
Poisonings
Mutilations
Deliberate starvation
Abandoning animals in remote locations
Beatings
Repeated kicking
Crushing
Inserting firecrackers into animals' mouths, taping them shut, and lighting the firecrackers
Setting cats and dogs on fire or placing them in ovens to burn alive
Pouring oil or petrol on cats and dogs
Stabbings
Shootings
No animal should have to endure such barbarity, especially in a European Union country like Greece, which is supposed to be civilized. How has Greece descended to such a deplorable level of moral and ethical deprivation? To make matters worse, punishment for animal abusers is rarely enforced.
Let's raise our voices and put an end to this appalling cruelty. The world must unite in condemnation and demand immediate action to help these innocent animals. Please share this post to spread awareness and help bring about change.
